I would honestly talk to friends or mentors about this. Why would you even consider moving to a potentially lower or at least hierarchically equal position at another bank?
To get exposure to a different set of responsibilities, projects and clients in a different organisation in order to expand both network and experience. As you say, I prefer NOT to sacrifice hierarchy in this move and it feels like the Citi option would be making that sacrifice but that's what I wanted to clarify on this forum. Depends what division you're talking about. Viewed another way, as a Director, you are officially up for promote to MD depending on revenue generation. As a VP, even a senior one, you are not.
They're also growing so a move to director would allow you to have a real shot in the next few years to kill it and make MD. I though salary ranges are standardized across the street at those levels too.Polyatomic anion definition
Do you not have visibility into base comp at the target firm? My first thought would be the individual has been told there is no path to MD. If you responded with the "additional responsibilities" bit, at your level I think most would view that as a fluff response trying to cover for the no promote. HR is likely just reading the job description related to the opening so I would push for more clarity. WSO depends on everyone being able to pitch in when they know something.

The issue here though is that there's less of a research focus in credit than equity and more of a component to pricing odd features of bonds or correlation products.
A lot of it is a numbers game revolving around risk and yield, and credit research typically splits a lot of the attention from the traders with the chief economist's office making predictions about treasury action. The desk analyst and credit titles says pretty clearly that he sits with the corporate bond or CDS traders.
And Executive Director says he's probably not a year-old kid. Analyst could mean research or it could mean quant analytics. If it were equity, I'd lean towards research; being credit, I'm kinda leaning a little more towards it meaning he's a quant.
Really, it could be either one. Sad state of affairs and a good indicator of "title inflation" when they put the word Executive in your name and you're stuck right in middle management.
